First aid training for young parents

1 min read Health Youth Work
St John Ambulance is planning to launch a national project to give young parents first-aid training as part of its five-year youth strategy. If funding is secured, a pilot programme wil- commence in London in March 2008.

The programme will be free to all young parents up to the age of 25, and will particularly target mums and dads who are not in education, employment or training in line with the government's 10-year plan for young people.

Young members of St John Ambulance have been involved in every aspect of developing the project and will deliver the training. The idea for the project came about after young parents approached the charity with concerns about their lack of first-aid knowledge.

Wendy Human, youth development manager at St John Ambulance, said: "We hope that funding becomes available soon so we can help these young people learn more about first aid and ensure they feel confident about what to do in an emergency."
