Delegates at last week's Men Can Care conference, run by Children in Scotland and Kibble Care and Education Centre, heard how more work was needed to change the perception that caring for children was "women's work".
A campaign and recruitment drive earlier this year by Kibble attracted 32 men to study for the Scottish Progression Award in Caring for Children and Young People - and 90 per cent are now working in child and youth care.
The centre is confident its bid for renewed funding from the European Social Fund will be successful. Neil McMillan, Men Can Care project manager, said: "Children benefit from having male role models. We need to raise the status of childcare as a profession for men who may not see it as a positive career move."
