The National Youth Agency: Youth work approach would enablechildren's trusts to offer better services

1 min read

Building trust with young people, the youth service contribution to children's trusts, also calls for them, as a first step, to rename themselves "children and young people's trusts", so as to recognise the different needs of children and young people.

The briefing also calls for the voice of young people to be evident in all trusts. "All trusts should also be informed by the direct voice and influence of young people. Each trust should adopt the principles of Hear by Right (The NYA/LGA) and implement these in ways appropriate to their own setting," it says.

The paper outlines how the youth service can deliver on the five outcomes of Every Child Matters and the children bill - being healthy, staying safe, enjoying and achieving, making a positive contribution and economic wellbeing.
