The National Youth Agency: What's changed

1 min read
What's Changed is a tool for groups to record the outcomes of participation by young people. In this occasional column we summarise an example of how young people have brought about change.

Organisation: Voices in Action, Derby

Issue: Young people wanted damaged fencing and a sign at the park to be repaired

The situation: Young people wanted the park to maintain a safe environment for children. In particular, they wanted fencing that had come down leading to easy access onto railway lines to be repaired. They also wanted a sharp spike holding a sign to the play area to be fixed or removed. Young people from Voices in Action met with Dawn Dagley, parks liaison officer, to raise their concerns.

What children and young people said: "The kids could be safe again and there would be no more injuries." "Train track ... wouldn't have to watch them anymore and they would be free to play." "I'm pleased 'cause my brother plays there." "Don't have to worry anymore."
