The National Youth Agency: What's changed

1 min read
What's Changed is a tool for groups to record the outcomes of participation by young people. In this occasional column we summarise an example of how young people have brought about change.

Organisation: Youth Cafe - The Den

Issue: Young people had nothing to do and antisocial behaviour was increasing in the local area.

The situation: Young people had very little to do and were bored. A candidate for the UK Youth Parliament campaigned for increasing the provision of things to do for local young people. Following consultation with young people it became clear that they wanted a live music venue and it was decided to open a youth cafe/bar.

What children and young people said: "The Den is everything that I'd hoped it would be and more. It's changed the lives of loads of young people my age. We now have somewhere to go which is safe. It'll be awesome in the winter because we'll have somewhere to go which is warm. The Den has changed my life loads."
