Organisation: Aylesbury Vale Youth For Christ (AVYFC) Issue To find affordable and safe places to hang out.
The situation: Through a report into the needs of young people and the community, AVYFC discovered that the main need identified was to find venues that would provide affordable places for young people to hang out. The young people formed a steering group with AVYFC and the local police to plan a youth cafe. They discussed specific needs and successfully applied for funding. What children and young people said.
"Youth cafes are good because young people can go and enjoy themselves and build good relationships with other young people. They're also a safe place so no one has to be afraid about being bullied. Workers are more than happy to talk about any problems young people may have and give advice. The best thing is that they're free to get in." "We can go after school and meet new people instead of sitting at home in front of TVs or computers."
