The National Youth Agency: Quality - Young Research project looks into true value of volunteering

1 min read
The National Youth Agency has established the Young Researcher Network (YRN), a partnership with 15 youth organisations to value, support and encourage research led by young people.

With the training phase complete, the 15 groups will research a range of different issues. In the second of our series of project profiles we take a look at Somerset Youth Volunteering Network's Young Research Crew.

This project aims to identify how young people aged 16 to 25 are perceived on the streets of Glastonbury by both adults and their peers. The project will place particular emphasis on the value of volunteering, analysing how a range of activities can raise self-confidence, self-esteem and counter the negative stereotyping that tends to be applied to young people in the local community. Evidence produced through this research is likely to support the position that volunteering is a positive experience for both young people and the community that it benefits.
