Local and national officials have pledged to involve young people in shaping and improving health and other services for adolescents, following a Movers and Shakers event hosted by young people in Portsmouth.

Susie Waller, head of health improvement at Portsmouth City Council, and Sharon George, head of integrated youth support services, were among those who told groups of young people they would fully involve, engage with and consult them in order to improve services and ensure they meet their needs.

Lily Makurah of the Department of Health (DH), who is charged with developing and rolling out the national You're Welcome quality criteria scheme for young people-friendly health services, pledged "to make a reference to young people's participation and involvement in decision making in every DH- headed letter I write about You're Welcome." She also undertook to speak to looked-after young people and find out any issues they had that could be addressed by the quality criteria.
