Portsmouth deal to give young people a bigger say on services

1 min read Youth Work
Portsmouth City Council is to become the first local authority to sign up to a programme designed to ensure councils effectively involve children and young people in their work.

The programme was developed by The National Youth Agency (NYA) and Investing in Children, a children's rights organisation. The programme provides councils with training, support and external assessment (CYP Now, 7-13 May).

It establishes how well the local authority is meeting the needs of children and young people and what it needs to do to improve. The system is based on the NYA's Hear by Right scheme, which is a standards framework to assess and improve practice and policy on the active involvement of children and young people.

The scheme was due to be given the green light in Portsmouth as CYP Now went to press.
