Youth service staff in Plymouth recently held a staff development conference to analyse their success in promoting active involvement of young people. They had been using The NYA's toolkit for active involvement, Hear by Right. The event sought to define what true participation is, why it was important to involve young people and how to move forward.

Some cited the fact that cash is now directly in the hands of Plymouth's young people - largely through YOF/YCF - so that new projects of direct benefit to young people can be developed. Others referred to new after-school facilities, better drugs and alcohol awareness, and young people being trained as evaluators.
