The government has published draft guidance on what should be expected of designated teachers for looked-after children.

What's happening with the Care Matters proposals? The legislative foundations - the Children and Young Persons Act 2008 - are being implemented bit by bit. For example, the government is spending £6m on testing social work practices in six areas. The recent child health strategy has reconfirmed that the government will be issuing new statutory guidance on the health of looked-after children. And the Department for Children, Schools and Families is currently looking into the role of the designated teacher in its consultation The Designated Teachers for Looked-after Children: Draft Regulations and Statutory Guidance. The guidance is due to come into force in September 2009.
