The Austin and Hope Pilkington Trust

1 min read Education
The trust awards grants to UK registered charities for projects undertaken in the UK. Each year, it sets out what types of projects it will fund during that grant period. Priorities for 2014 are music and arts projects. Priority will be given to projects that are educational or aimed at audiences that would not normally have access to productions and exhibitions.

How much is on offer? Grants are usually between £1,000 and £3,000. Charities that have not been funded before, and are not known by the trustees, are more likely to receive smaller grants. If a project costs more than £3,000, the trust is happy to part-fund it. Grants are awarded for one year only. The ratio of applications received to grants awarded is approximately 20 to one.

What will it fund? National projects are preferred to those with a local remit. Local branches of national charities can apply only if they have a separate charity registration number from the national charity. The trust will not fund overseas projects, schools, village halls, charities involved with religion, charities involved with animals (welfare and conservation), students, Scouts, Guides, Cubs or Brownies, or holidays. Organisations that are not registered with the Charity Commission cannot apply for a grant either.
