Sport: Rowing scheme in pipeline for London

1 min read

London Youth Rowing aims to make the sport more accessible to young people aged 13 to 15, who would not normally have access to such facilities.

It is backed by the Amateur Rowing Association and a public launch is planned for 28 June.

Simon Shneerson, London Youth's appeals director, said that rowing was traditionally a middle-class sport, so "we want to give young people from other communities the chance to take part".

The programme is to be based at the London Regatta Centre at the Royal Albert Dock in east London, but there are plans to extend it across London.

A summer programme this year would consist of a five-day rowing and water course at the Albert Dock, with young people from youth clubs, schools and groups, primarily from east London.
