Social work: Children reveal social worker views

Children want the opportunity to talk to social workers alone, says research.

Roger Morgan, children's rights director at the Commission for SocialCare Inspection, asked young people what they thought about socialworkers.

During visits, nearly half had someone else with them when they spoke totheir worker. This made it difficult for them to talk aboutconcerns.

Morgan said: "We heard from young people that you need to go to neutralterritory to talk."

Another big issue was that social workers kept changing. "I have hadaround 30 in 10 years," said one young person.

But overall, children were "very fair" about their social workers, saidMorgan.
