The list has been sent to all directors of children's services inEngland to help them commission residential care effectively. JonathanStanley, acting manager of the national centre, said: "The tips willincrease the information directors have about commissioning."
Key areas covered include: relationships between staff and young people;family relationships; preventing children from becominginstitutionalised; leadership; theory of practice; and therapeuticsupport.
One of the tips on a child-centred relationship between commissionersand providers says: "Each local authority commissioning section needs toestablish a protocol that includes all aspects of residential childcare."
