The draft contract would transform the way local authorities work withchildren's homes. The consultation period for the document, The NationalContract for the Placement of Children and Young People in Independentand Voluntary Sector Residential Care, ended last week.
Richard Hilditch, director of service development for the Continuum Careand Education Group, said: "We welcome the idea of a national contractapplicable across the board to all services commissioned by localauthorities."
The aim of the contract is to ensure responsibility for the quality ofoutcomes for children in residential care homes is shared between localauthorities.
Other aims include sharing best practice, improving partnerships'safeguarding high standards of care and education, and providing a modelthat both residential homes and local authorities can sign up to.
