NCB Now: Priorities identified for residential child care

1 min read
The National Centre for Excellence in Residential Child Care (NCERCC) has set leadership, management and outcomes as priorities for the year ahead in the residential child care sector.

Jonathan Stanley, manager of NCERCC, says positive leadership and management are essential. "Maintaining the integrity of child-centred, opportunity-led, residential group living requires leadership and management that both meets the needs of children and young people and contributes to the development of their services."

NCERCC also calls for outcomes to be developed, beyond those of Every Child Matters, to effectively evaluate the task of looking after young people in residential care.

Leadership, management and outcomes are also the theme of this year's annual NCERCC conference in Manchester on 5 November. The event examines how outcomes are used across the world and how providers have sought to resolve potential conflicts involved with standardisation, differentiation and individuation of outcomes.
