NCB NOW: Plans for residential centre of excellence

A new NCB study is to examine the feasibility of a national centre of excellence for residential child care in England.

The initiative takes forward the Support Force for Children's Residential Care's 1995 recommendation to set up a national centre for residential care. Such a facility already exists in Scotland - the Scottish Institute for Residential Child Care.

Momentum will examine whether there is a case for setting up a similar centre in England, and if so, what services it would provide.

The eight-month project, which is funded by the Social Education Trust, will be led by NCB's Children's Residential Care Unit.
