Social Care News: Workforce - Venture capitalists defend pay rates

A new survey has exposed the pay gulf between social care staff and employees of a venture capital firm that owns a children's home company.

The survey, by The Guardian newspaper, found the average staff salary atventure capitalists 3i was 174,625.

In contrast, nursery nurses and teaching assistants earn around 6or 7 an hour.

A spokeswoman for 3i said: "Without investment from the commercialsector, these companies might struggle to provide these criticalservices.

"3i operates to the strictest ethical guidelines and strives to achievestrong growth in all of the companies it backs."
