Social Care News: Scotland - Child protection to be tightened up

Scotland's First Minister has announced plans to tighten up the country's child protection system.

Jack McConnell said he hoped to introduce legislation "at an earlyopportunity".

One aim is to ensure that child protection systems in England andScotland "work together properly".

Responding to the row in England about the appointment of a teacher whowas on the sex offenders register, he added: "I believe that therelationship between the sex offenders register and the systems relatingto working with children in Scotland requires further attention."
