The sense of being judged can dissuade minority ethnic parents from opening up about how they were parented, denying them the chance to improve their own parenting skills.
But a project developed from a US programme and run by the Coram Family provides around 60 parents each year in Tower Hamlets, east London, with an atmosphere where they can discuss experiences.
External evaluation has shown the programme has significantly decreased negative disciplinary methods, such as parents hitting their children.
