Kathleen Marshall is to meet Scotland Office minister Anne McGuire to discuss the welfare of children at Dungavel Immigration Centre, Lanarkshire.
The decision to house 150 people at the centre, dubbed Scotland's Guantanamo Bay, has provoked fierce criticism. In January, the Bishop of Paisley said it "shamed the people of this country".
The UN Convention on the Rights of the Child states that "detention must be used only as a measure of last resort and for the shortest appropriate period of time; and children should have the right to challenge the legality of their detention before a court or other impartial authority".
"I am exploring the extent to which these standards are being met," added Marshall.
