Social Care News: Immigration - Asylum-seekers treated as migrants

Asylum-seeking children are being systematically excluded from measures designed to deliver better outcomes for children, say experts.

Heaven Crawley, a lecturer at the University of Wales, wrote the reportfor the Immigration Law Practitioners' Association. She said: "There isevidence that children subject to immigration control are treated asmigrants first, and their rights as children are unidentified orignored."

It coincided with the publication of a House of Lords European Unioncommittee report calling for increased transparency on the detention ofchildren. But a spokeswoman for Save the Children called for thedetention of children to stop completely.
