The Scottish Government last week introduced new regulations in the Scottish Parliament, to take effect in January 2008, designed to give asylum seeker children access to financial support for post-school education provided they have lived in Scotland for at least three years.
Education minister Fiona Hyslop said: "Wherever children come from they should receive care, protection and education. This is our responsibility under the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child."
Scotland's children's commissioner Kathleen Marshall said: "This is an investment not only in children and young people but in the future of our country."
