Why? The programme claims to improve children's social and cognitive skills in addition to being great exercise. But, for centre staff, the real reason for doing it was the opportunity to attract dads, as their theme for the week was "Focus on fathers".
What happened? Secret Garden booked two Socatot sessions, one on a weekday evening and one on a Saturday morning. It also provided a Scalectrix track, paper modelling and refreshments. Male carers were asked to fill in a questionnaire about what activities and equipment they would like to see in the centre.
How did it go? Lots of men turned up and enjoyed the sessions. They called for more of the same activities and pledged to form a dads' group, which is currently being set up. Staff said the sessions were a great hook to get men into the centre and talking about the services it has to offer. Seeing their little ones enjoying themselves so much gave them even more reason to come back.
