What do they do? Each month the children's centre opens its doors to fathers, grandfathers and male carers to come along with their children and enjoy playing together. And each month has a different theme. The next event will focus on fathers and their children participating together in arts and crafts.
Why? Research suggests that children's development can benefit hugely from having a male carer play an active role in their lives. However, many fathers do not spend as much time with their children as they would like.
How is it going? The dads are really enjoying it as they get to spend a lot more quality time with their children. The scheme also allows them to get on with having fun while staff provide refreshments and make sure all the play equipment is laid out. The children also like it because they are allowed to make as much mess as they like. In addition, unlike at home, they have their friends around them to play with.
