Kettering Sure Start Children's Centre

1 min read Early Years
What is unique about the setting? The local hospital runs an obstetric clinic out of the centre, providing support for pregnant women. It also has a midwife who works out of the centre, running antenatal and postnatal clinics.

What are the benefits? As opposed to a hospital, where clinics are normally based, the centre is a place that is more comfortable and convenient for families. The centre knows the people that are there and will see the same people every month.

How is it going? Nobody has missed an antenatal session in the two years that it has been running. It also breeds a progressive use of services within the centre, as most mothers and fathers return after the birth of their child to attend new parent groups, eventually moving on to stay and play.

Who is it run by? Action for Children
