Connexions Milton Keynes, Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire managed to reduce the percentage of disengaged young people, from 10.4 per cent two years ago to just 6.4 per cent last November.
But challenges remained, including the negative perceptions of young people held by some employers. The organisation decided to trial a more direct and light-hearted approach.
The solution
The organisation's inspiration came from a "speed matching" event trialled in November by Connexions Sussex.
Based on the speed-dating concept, it involved employers and young people revolving around a room, spending a few minutes with each other to decide whether they could work together.
Help came from a former member of the Connexions team, who now runs a local organisation called SearchMate.
