There seems to be a wide range of drug-related activity packs available, but it seems to me that there is nowhere near the same choice when it comes to looking at drinking. This is surprising considering the current concerns around binge drinking and the clear links between alcohol misuse and antisocial behaviour.
The second reason is that I have used Hammered's predecessor, Skoosh, successfully in both schools and youth projects, so I was interested to see the impact on this updated pack of current research and of government targets to reduce teenage drinking.
Hammered offers good factual information and activities to promote discussion and build life skills. Section one contains data on alcohol consumption, gender issues and advice on sensible drinking levels. It also covers alcohol issues within ethnic minority communities and the cultural influence that alcohol has in Britain. Finally, it lists details of agencies that can provide expert and professional advice on alcohol-related problems, and these can be passed on to young people, along with information on local support in your area.
