Resources: Review - An inclusive but not comprehensive drugs guide

2 mins read

The story is this. Dr Ian Sutherland, a psychologist from the Centre for Substance Abuse Research at the University of Wales, submitted a draft of this book and then most unfortunately died. It was decided to go ahead with publishing an early draft - and this is the result. Unlike this book, some of Sutherland's publications listed at the end show evidence of rigour and meticulousness. It seems the act of publishing this book will do no service to Sutherland's reputation.

So, what is in it? Eight chapters of between six and 25 pages, starting with an Introduction and followed by A Brief History of Substance Use and Abuse; Drug Action and Effects; Why Do We Take Drugs; The Extent of Substance Use; Risk Factors; Assessing Risk and What to Do Now.
