Resources: Review - An interesting but one-sided view of drug use

2 mins read

Drug Induced pulls together a number of articles or presentations by Phil Harris since 1999. The articles have been reworked with additional material in an effort to provide narrative structure. But this has proved only partially successful and while some of the sections are excellent, others do not work so well.

The strongest material is contained in the four chapters looking at how workers can promote change, and the importance of effectively delivered motivational interviewing techniques. These well-written chapters will provide much useful material for counsellors, therapists and drugs workers. The chapters stress the importance of clients arriving at their own decision to change rather than having it foisted on them, and the role of the skilled worker in enabling that process without dictating it.
