Adolescent Substance Misuse - Why One Young Person May be More at Risk

Than Another

Dr Ian Sutherland, a psychologist at the University of Wales College of Medicine, died unexpectedly before the manuscript was edited. This must have left the publishing team with a dilemma. Leave the manuscript largely untouched, engage another author to work on it or edit rigorously? It seems the publishers decided to edit the original manuscript and this may, with hindsight, have been a mistake. The book sets out to examine the risk factors for substance misuse among adolescents, and to suggest some approaches that might make a difference. It is aimed at a wide range of practitioners and young people themselves. Much of it takes a conversational, even jocular, style, but occasionally it veers into technical language and at other times into a patronising mush. Had Dr Sutherland lived, these differences in style would probably have been sorted out.
