Things weren't looking good for Mark Armstrong last Christmas; nine years of crack and heroin addiction had taken its toll on his body and he was rushed to hospital with a blood clot and pleurisy. His relationship with the mother of his two-year-old daughter, Khya, was foundering, and Khya had been taken into care. Mark wasn't sure if he would see the New Year but, 11 months on, things are looking up. His spell in hospital proved the turning point he needed to get his life back on track, and he has been clean since Christmas.
"I nearly died when I was in hospital," he reveals. "When I came out I balanced things up in my head. I chose to clean up and try and get my daughter back from care."
