However, it deserves a more serious look. Rooted in the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, it is based on children and young people's right under Article 12 to participate in decisions that affect them. It recognises the need for a guide that enables them to be effective where many of these decisions are made - in meetings of adults.

The pack is easy to use with a poster, exercise cards, photocopiable handouts and a booklet explaining how the pack was developed with young people. The poster is a 12-point charter for organisations wanting to involve young people in formal meetings. The 16 exercise cards are well set out, with guidance about time, preparing materials and clear instructions about the task, but some of the exercises are too prescriptive; young people could be much more active in deciding the content.
