1. It is illegal to treat anyone differently because of their sexuality. That includes refusing to employ them, sacking them, passing them over for promotion, paying them less or giving them worse conditions, not letting them go on a training course, or not inviting them to social events. The new laws cover contract workers as well as employees and deal with all aspects of discrimination in the workplace.

2. If this sounds familiar, it is because it is modelled on existing practices to avoid sex, race and disability discrimination. Many organisations have policies that cover sexual orientation discrimination. The regulations are for all companies and organisations.
