Any suggestion that anyone can be "cured" of their sexual orientation is fraught with problems. Invite young people's comments on what some of the implications might be. How would it affect someone to be told that their genuine feelings were somehow wrong and could be altered by prayer or therapy? If you feel that you were born gay, as many people do, does this mean you were born with something wrong with you? Talk about what it means to think of being gay as an illness.

Discuss why groups might want to change other people's sexual orientation.

What might be the motivation behind groups offering services that claim to cure homosexuality? Much of the evidence suggests that attempts to alter people's sexual orientation will fail. Is it fair to offer people services that are unlikely to work?
