1. Practising skills is the most obvious and straightforward use for role-plays. If the first time a young person is interviewed for a job is the first time they've ever faced a panel asking them questions, they can expect to make a few mistakes. How could it be otherwise? People can get good at anything through practising. Using the telephone to request information or book a service is also a good mock learning experience. And don't forget the other side of the job interview. More young people are interviewing staff for posts. It's nerve-wracking whichever side of the decision you are on, so practise both roles. Realising the difficulties of the interviewer also helps to take the pressure off.
