Resources: Funding focus - The Baring Foundation

1 min read

Who can apply? The international grants programme is now closed for this year, and reductions in the foundation's income means it has discontinued its arts programme. The main remaining programme is entitled Strengthening the Voluntary Sector and is designed to improve the organisational effectiveness of constituted not-for-profit organisations. National organisations in England or Wales can apply, as can local bodies in London, Merseyside, Devon and Cornwall. Individuals, animal welfare charities and schools are not eligible. Call 020 7767 1348 for further clarification.

What will it fund? It works to make lasting change in the effectiveness of organisations. So it could help in business planning, implementing new organisational structures, improvements to IT or personnel systems, quality assurance procedures, dissemination of good practice or involvement of users in planning and management. It can't just be the expansion of existing services but could be used to free up staff time for development work, buying in consultancy, training or pilot schemes.
