What will it support? Applications are invited from projects tackling hate crimes motivated by race, religion, homophobia, transphobia and disability. The Home Office wants to support projects that can help increase reporting of crime and confidence in the criminal justice system, increase the expertise of service providers and improve good practice generally. Early intervention, especially in the case of repeat victimisation, is a further priority. Funding can support revenue and capital expenditure, so might include training for practitioners, production of training materials or one-off equipment purchases.
Who can apply? Any organisation in England and Wales with a proven track record in the development and delivery of services to victims of hate crime. This includes voluntary sector groups and statutory bodies such as community safety partnerships. Key criteria include evidence of a high level of need (using local crime statistics and other community information), an indication of value for money including the demonstration of clear and measurable outcomes, and clear links to other local initiatives.
