It has four rounds each year and the theme for summer 2007 is "Working with young people (11-25) to address and promote social cohesion that arises through the challenges of identity that they face in their lives today". This stems from research commissioned by Camelot after the July 2005 bombings that showed a lack of resonance of current notions of Britishness with young people. Camelot found a lot of young people having questions about their sense of identity and "fit".
What will it fund? Projects that go beyond standard citizenship approaches in school and engage young people in a debate about multiculturalism. It will in particular support projects that reduce fear and prejudice through genuine emotional engagement and that have the potential to influence policy and practice on a wider scale. This may involve creative activities that encourage young people to take an interest in their own and other cultures, but not projects on hate crime or victimisation, which have been supported in previous rounds. Funding can cover salaries and costs for management, evaluation and dissemination of findings, but not capital projects.
