What will it support? Projects that address practical needs in imaginative ways. For example, the Hillingdon Refugee Support Group was awarded 50,000 under the scheme to fund a full-time co-ordinator who was able to recruit 50 befrienders to offer support to more than 100 young refugees. The group also enables young people to become involved in the planning and organisation of programmes, encouraging them to take responsibility for their own learning and recreational activities. Bosnia and Herzegovina UK Network received a similar sum to pilot art, drama and sport activities through the youth clubs and supplementary schools that it runs, providing opportunities to socialise with peers from the host community. Other areas the programme will support include enabling refugee groups to work in partnership with other voluntary organisations, drawing public attention to issues of integrating young refugees and new approaches to joined-up service delivery for these young people and their families.
