A public opinion poll by MORI for Refugee Week, 16-22 June, shows that many young people are ill-informed about refugees and asylum issues.
The poll, commissioned by Amnesty International UK, Refugee Action and The Refugee Council, shows a third of young people disagree that asylum seekers should have the same education, liberty and work rights as British nationals.
Fifty-eight per cent believe foreign-born people, including refugees and asylum seekers, do not make a positive contribution to the economy.
In fact, they contribute a surplus of about 10 per cent to Government revenues, which is 2.5bn a year, according to the Home Office.
