Negative coverage of asylum seekers in the media means life is even harder than it might be for young refugees and asylum seekers. Issues such as bullying, prejudice and insecurity are part of everyday life for those who want to make the UK their new home. Isolation, language issues and family separation are among the problems they can face when trying to settle in Britain.
The asylum and immigration bill, which was due to have had its second reading in the House of Lords on 15 March, is causing ripples over the effects it might have on young people. Ironically, the legislation is wending its way through the House of Lords at almost the same time as the children bill.
