The Refugee Council is concerned that in the UK there are currently 1,370 asylum seekers being held in detention having committed no crime. Of which, 155 have been in detention for more than six months.
STAR is an organisation that gives students and young people the opportunity to learn about and raise awareness of refugee issues in innovative ways, support refugees in a practical way in their local communities through volunteering and campaign with and for the rights of refugees everywhere.
The STAR network is made up of 26 student groups across the UK. During February, STAR hosted National Action Day. For more information about this and other campaigns including "Refugee Policy is PANTS", visit its web site at www.star-network.org.uk.
