Goals: To offer educational support to excluded groups so they can gain skills and self-esteem

Funding: Annual turnover of about 700,000, which has to be raised through trusts, the Learning and Skills Council, local authorities, government departments and European agencies

Preventing young offenders re-offending has never been easy. The secure estate is often seen as a stopgap and young offenders are likely to commit crimes again.

The Sobriety Project aims to help these young offenders with its Waterways Work for Women scheme. This is designed to help young women who have served custodial sentences, using the waterways to help them develop new skills.
