It's hard to escape Eastleigh's association with the Spitfire. Near the centre of the Hampshire town, one of the planes stands in the middle of the roundabout, while people can wander down streets named after the Second World War aircraft.
Despite the visible connection, local young people are largely unaware of much of the history that lies behind the aircraft that made its maiden flight from Eastleigh Airport in 1936. To help them discover more, the local council set up a documentary project last year for 14- to 18-year-olds interested in their local heritage.
