Goals: To increase young people's involvement in politics, and increase turnout in local UK Youth Parliament elections

Funding: About 1,000 from the youth service, plus staff costs

To drum up support for local UK Youth Parliament (UKYP) elections earlier this year, Somerset Youth Service decided that if it couldn't take the people to politics, it would take politics to the people. It hired a bus kitted out with ballot boxes and the candidates' manifestos and spent two weeks visiting seven local schools.

"The bus was a focal point," says Sarah Stevens, area youth worker in Taunton Deane. "Instead of being in a school hall we were inside the bus."
