Project notes: The Bus

1 min read

Goals: To re-engage hard-to-reach young people and provide a safe space where they can spend their leisure time

Funding: Money comes from the local authority and local organisations.

The project has received 10,000 from 4Children's Make Space initiative

A bus is not the first place you would expect teenagers to spend their free time, but the idea has proved a hit with young people in Carlisle.

The Bus project is run by the Living Well Trust, a Christian charity based on the Raffles Estate in Carlisle, and is supported by 4Children's Make Space campaign. Barrie Thomas, director of the trust, and his team set the project up three years ago when they bought a bus to convert into a mobile youth club in response to high levels of youth disengagement and unemployment in the city.
