Goals: To help young people with learning difficulties live independently
Funding: 180,000 a year from the Government's Supporting People grant, plus some funding from social services, and rent
Young people with learning difficulties can struggle to move from a family home or residential college to a place of their own, and Kingfishers helps them gain the skills and confidence they need.
People aged 18 to 25 are referred to the project through social services, although some make an initial approach on their own. They are assessed, and if it is decided that they are likely to be able to achieve a greater degree of independence by living either on their own or with others, then they qualify for the scheme.
