Funding: The Housing Corporation and Blackpool Borough Council Neighbourhood Renewal Fund provided the money for the project, including 600,000 building costs
Goals: To help young mothers vulnerable to homelessness build the skills necessary for an independent life
The Place, a purpose-built accommodation scheme for homeless teenage mums, was officially opened in Blackpool on 16 September by Terrie Alafat, director of the Government's Homelessness Directorate (above, centre).
The project provides eight teenage mums and their babies with accommodation for up to 18 months. It teaches parenting skills, life skills including cooking, budgeting and managing money, and helps with education, training and career guidance.
